Kaunas, LITHUANIA. "Zalgiris" Kaunas smashed Russian club "Avtodor" Saratov 77:62 (43:33) and won the fifth victory in a row. With a total of 6 victories in 8 games, "Zalgiris" continues to lead Group A in EuroLeague.
"Zalgiris" started the game with a 9:2 run and held advantage of 5-8 points throughout most of the first half, gaining the biggest lead just before the halftime - 43:33, after a 3-pointer by center George Zidek. Tomas Masiulis scored all of his 10 points in the first period to lead Lithuanian club in scoring until the break.
"Zalgiris" outscored Russian team 14:4 in first 6 minutes of the second half to gain its biggest advantage in a game - 57:37. This run was crowned with a spectacular slam-dunk by 175 cm tall point guard Tyus Edney. Later on "Zalgiris" maintained the secure difference in points, leading the game to a calm finish.
Saulius Stombergas led "Zalgiris" in scoring with 16 points. Anthony Bowie and George Zidek added 11 points each, while Tomas Masiulis finished with 10 points and game-high 14 rebounds. Tyus Edney contributed with 8 points and 8 assists.
"Zalgiris"' center Eurelijus Zukauskas held other Lithuanian, but playing for Russian club, Gintaras Einikis to just 4 points on a very poor 1/16 FG shooting. Hrihoriy Khizhnyak led "Avtodor" with 16 points and 9 rebounds.
In other EuroLeague Group A games on Thursday "Fenerbahce" Istanbul (TUR) defeated "Elan Bearnais" Pau Orthez (FRA) 78:71, and "Tau Ceramica" Vitoria (ESP) edged "Roosters" Varese (ITA) 75:72.
