Kings Update: Edney Coming Around

(Published Jan. 19, 1997)

Kings guard Tyus Edney was home Saturday trying to recuperate.

"I'm all right, but I'm still struggling," he said. "My neck is still sore, and I'm in pain."

Edney said he visited Kings team physician Dr. Richard Marder on Friday afternoon.

"He said it was similar to whiplash," Edney said of Marder's diagnosis. "The muscles in the neck have been strained. I'll start treatment (today). I'll get heat and probably a little massage."

Edney said his parents, Barbara and Hank, came to Sacramento on Saturday morning.

The Kings starting point guard said he slept through the first half of the Kings' 96-76 loss to the Spurs on Friday night.

"I actually woke up at halftime and heard, 'Mitch Richmond was ejected,' " Edney said. "I said, 'Oh, oh.' "

Edney said he is having difficulty sleeping.

"The doctor said the recovery time usually is about three, four or five days. It's hard for me to sleep. I've been able to get to sleep, but then I have to get up in the middle of the night to get some medicine. But I've been trying to hold out as long as I can."
